Board Candidates

John David Flemming

In what section of the community do you live?:
Preserve

Why do you want to become a Board member?:
I'd like to see this community flourish and have more homeowner unity and engagement than what's been evident in my four years of living on Green Mountain. I think I can influence decisions positively and help bring forth solutions that benefit all residents. I feel like it's all important to protect the significant investment that people have made to live here and to preserve the natural beauty of our surroundings.

What skills will you bring to the Board?:
I am a quick learner and responsible individual who acts with honesty and integrity. I enjoy problem-solving and finding solutions to complex issues. I have an extensive background with many different types of software, computing devices, and computer networks. I'm also a staunch DIYer and have gained lots of experience and knowledge from doing many different projects over the past 30+ years

Are you prepared to commit the time needed to effectively run an HOA Board? Please explain.:
I work a full-time job but feel like I have sufficient time to devote to being an HOA Board member and attending meetings. I already spend some of my leisure time researching matters that pertain to and affect the Inspiration HOA and Green Mountain, such as land transactions, Planning Commission meetings, road construction projects, infrastructure improvement projects, and legal filings. This research would naturally benefit the HOA.

What, if any, experience do you have in financial recordkeeping, QuickBooks, etc?:
My career and job don't require me to be involved in cost accounting or financial planning activities. I do, however, have 30+ years experience using Quicken and other personal finance software and planning software to track and manage household expenses, develop household budgets, and track and manage retirement and non-retirement investment accounts.

What, if any, experience do you have in negotiating and managing service contracts?:
I'm a software developer by trade and am not involved in subcontract management or contract negotiations as part of my job or career. The extent to which I've managed and negotiated service contracts is limited to those that I deal with in my own household. I do believe I have a good feel for what constitutes a reasonable cost and value for many services and what is fiscally responsible given available budget.
